Background
!!This character background is undergoing some iterative passes!!
Born in the year 2983 of the Third Age of the Sun, to the parents Ælfstan and Alwyn, Rhinath was their only child to live more than a few days. He was preceded by a brother who did not survive his infancy.
His father was a notable blacksmith who had chosen to make his home amongst a small cluster of crofters near the road which ran from Aldburg in the Eastfold to Edoras. There, Ælfstan worked his forge, crafting all manner of things including tavern puzzles which kept Rhinath busy for days at a time during the winters. His mother, Alwyn spent much of her time working alongside the crofters on their farmland, or caring for the children of all the families.
Rhinath spent his early years playing within the fields and woodlands with the other children and causing the mischief that children are want to make.
As he grew his father took him into the family forge and began to give him simple jobs. The other children continued to play, but Ælfstan had other ideas for Rhinath. Within but a couple of years he had grown in stature and begun to put on muscle. yet there were still times when Rhinath was able to get away from the forge and play with his friends. When they were able to and not under the ever watchful eye of Alwyn they would often sneak away through the woods to the nearby ruins of a Númenórean watchtower. Here they would pick up sticks and fight mock battles and create such a ruckus the birds would fly this way and that out of the tree's and undergrowth as the children roared and laughed as they ran around.
Yet as time wore on the farming parents of the other children demanded more of their time as well. Soon they too were tending the crops and animals.
Rhinath continued to assist his father with the forge and he began to learn a great deal.Ælfstan not only crafted the nails, horseshoes and other tools needed. He also worked tirelessly on mail hauberks and weapons. This too Rhinath learnt. As time went on and Rhinath began to mature into a young man, Ælfstan sent him to deliver pieces which had been made to order to various families in Aldburg. Ælfstan's work had slowly become sought after, until the point where he and Rhinath would be working late into the evenings at the forge with Alwyn bringing them their suppers there.
During a visit to the markets in Aldburg when Rhinath was close to coming of age. He was approached by the housecarl of one of the noble families.
Sigeweard had been tasked by his lord, Ledwulf to find young men who would be willing to train and work as retainers in his household.
He had known both Ælfstan and his son Rhinath for a number of years. He knew of his skill in the forge and also that Rhinath would be eager for the chance to undertake his service as well as travel. Within the week Rhinath was bunked in the halls of Ledwulf and beginning his sperewigend training.
The years past and Ledwulf invested the money to have a forge of his own built to serve his house and lands. Ledwulf had heard from his seasoned men how Rhinath was able to make repairs to their gear and see to the needs of the horses whilst patrolling. He gave the running of the forge over to Rhinath, whom having began to tire of the tasks of standing watch had begun to get into trouble in the taverns of the city.
He remained as the master of Ledwulf's forge for but a year before Prince Théodred called for Ledwulf's son, Auerdan and his men to follow him into the lands across the Isen and the West-March.
Rhinath was one of the men who was chosen to go with Auerdan.
During their time in the West-March they fought running battles with the Orcs of the White Mountains, who routinely raided north into the pastures as well as Dunlendings of tribes who had never forgiven the Eorlingas.
During one fateful skirmish the company Auerdan lead was ambushed and scattered.
Rhinath injured, awoke from a fever dream to find himself still a horse on Snohal, yet in strange lands, far to the north of what he knew. Slowly he travelled further north, pursued by a pair of wargs which kept their distance. Finally he arrived in the town of Bree.
Weeks passed as he healed and regained his strength, before he was able to begin looking for others who might have survived. It did not take long for Rhinath to encounter the Færende Éored and find that Auerdan had taken over from the venerable lord Ehris some days before.
Rhinath has ridden in the ranks of the Færende Éored since then.
With the coming of more Eorlings into the company they left for the Lone Lands so as to harden the newer members to the life of a rider. Whilst encamped within the ruins of Ost Guruth he came to know Eorland's sister who had just recently arrived. Leofrynn having left on the trail of her older brother wished to escape her overbearing parents, particulary her mother Eadgryth.
Whilst enjoying some lighthearted ribbing of Eorland he found himself quickly getting embroiled into a conversation about Leofrynn's suitability as a wife. After making an off the cuff comment about it being past time for himself to find a wife. Eadgryth leapt upon this point and announced that they were to be betrothed. After some talk alone, Leofrynn and Rhinath agreed to the match, however they would wait until they reached Rohan before taking their rites.
