Third child and only daughter of Jerrod Papillion, a prosperous farmer in the Bree-lands. Very short-sighted, but with a talent for music and for song-writing, which her parents could afford to encourage, to the extent of finding tutors for her. Her two brothers (because of her short-sightedness) are very protective of her, which is a large part of her reason for leaving home (albeit not too far away) and striking out on her own.

Melillot is not particularly beautiful, but makes up for that by the quality of her voice. Being a farmer's daughter she is strongly built, and has always been at ease dealing with farm-stock. (Her father found her particularly helpful during the lambing season, as her hands, though strong, are quite small.)
