Thoughts on Bree, Part Two

Starting to feel settled here. At home again on the streets and among the people.
Got promoted too. No longer a recruit, but part of the Watch family now.
Makes me miss the others a bit less.
But I do miss them. Too much.
A lot of things to distract me from that. Training. Duties. New people.
Old crimes.
Spent so many hours reading the old reports and testimonies. Followed a couple of trails.
Tracks have been covered, but not perfectly.
There are a few things to work with.
Going to need help...
Wish I was still in Minas Tirith.
I knew who to turn to there.
Friends who would do whatever it took. Others who could be persuaded to cooperate if needed.
Here I'm still learning what parts people play. Their motivations and their wants.
Too many travelers in this town. Can't waste time on getting to know someone who leaves the next week. They're no use.
The locals are mistrusting because of them.
Because of bad experiences with rotten Watchers in the past.
Should talk to mother's family.
Never met them.
I've seen them around town. Shopkeepers and artisans. Kind. Hardworking. Honest.
I don't dare.
I don't want them to recognize me as her daughter.
People always told me I looked a lot like father, but maybe there is something of her in me too. Something they'll remember.
More of him.
I doubt they want to be reminded of him.
Have to find others.
