Journal entry 2, The Festival and the 8th Historical Field Trip

Dear Mother and Father,

I'm a little out of sorts. I went to the Spring Festival at the Party Tree and some cheeky fellow challenged me to the Inn League run. His name is Jardic Lightfoot and after what happened with Bucky Lightfoot, I couldn't let this Jardic speak down to me the way he did, so I accepted his challenge. As you might have guessed, he was behind me all the way, until we got to the Ivy Bush in Hobbiton. I've not been drinking much on my travels, so maybe it wasn't such a good idea since the next thing I remember is that Jardic claiming I'd invited him to stay at my place! I'm not so sure I did, I mean, I've never met him before and he's a Lightfoot to boot! I shall try to get him out of the house as soon as possible, though I can already see it won't be easy. The other hobbits seem to like him, though I can't imagine why. He even made a comment about my boots as if the rest wasn't enough!

I went to the 8th Historical Field Trip, only to find the fellow had come along too, though he was late. Lina gave us some history about the place and a bounder shared some interesting forest lore, about what you can find to eat in the forest and things like that. Sadly it was raining the whole time, so we sheltered in a cave, though we went out to see some ruins and fry sausages. I saw a few more familiar faces, like Hilldi and Gelsumine. She looked so pretty in her purple dress. Simbo was there and promptly fainted when he saw me. I know I've been gone a long time, but he must have been pretending. He's such a funny fellow. True to his talent, he had an epic poem in three parts, about a squirrel, a tree and a woodcutter. He's so very clever.

At the end of the outing, there was a rainbow! A few of us went to the Plough and Stars to get dry and have a drink and if that Jardic hadn't been along, it would have been a very nice outing in spite of the rain. I found out that Amorey has a brother! His name is Tahitoa, the fellow that was playing music with her at the GDF. They're both so talented. I almost managed to leave Jardic to sleep at the Plough and Stars, Amorey said they had rooms free, but he just said he would see me at home. I was ready to complain about him, but the other hobbits were talking about how polite he is, so I kept quiet. Maybe he will find a house soon and go live there. He did mention he wanted to buy a hole.
